The victim arrived at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center via private vehicle following the 9:35 p.m. shooting Sunday at Straight and Essex streets.
Police reported recovering 18 shell casings and two live rounds.
One of the bullets smashed through the window of a medical insurance company. Three parked vehicles also were struck.
Detectives had another shooting to handle shortly after 1 a.m. at the corner of 12th Avenue and East 19th Street.
The victim in that shooting, a 40-year-old Clifton man, was shot more than once but sustained wounds that weren’t considered fatal, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora said.
They didn't say whether anyone had been arrested or identified in either shooting.
